Rice Cooker Steel Cut Oats

One of my favorite breakfast foods is steel cut oats. I make it in my rice cooker, which is fast and easy, and yields several servings which I can refrigerate and eat a few days in a row — promoting consistency! Most breakfast foods are safe for patients taking anticoagulants (oatmeal contains just 3 mcg Vitamin K), but there are some things to keep in mind. The recipe below includes flax seed meal, a supplement high in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been linked to decreased clotting of blood. You’ll want to be careful when consuming these that your blood doesn’t get too thin. Omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of a healthy diet, so shouldn’t be avoided – just kept consistent. 1 cup steel cut oats

3 cups water

1 TBSP flax seed meal

1/2 chopped apple

pinch of salt

pinch of cinnamon

1/2 TBSP agave nectar


Combine all ingredients in rice cooker, cook and enjoy!
